Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the prestigious trophy on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck twice late to take a surprise lead. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to seal a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 seasons.
